Book vs Movie

I know that admitting that you prefer a movie adaptation more than the book is blasphemous for bookworms but sometimes it just happens. I recently finished reading P.S I Love You by Cecelia Ahern and although it was a good read I couldn’t help but be a bit disheartened because it was not as good as the movie. In fact it was nothing like the movie – it’s not even set in the same country! I love the movie, Gerard Butler is perfect as Gerry, I love the sexy Irish vibe and I really like Holly, Sharon and Denise as American girls. People told me that they were different but really I feel that they should be viewed as two separate works as they really have nothing in common apart from a grieving widow named Holly and a dead husband named Gerry.

Now normally I wouldn’t watch the movie until I had read the book but in this case I watched P.S I Love You for the first time years and years ago. It wasn’t until just recently that I discovered Cecelia Ahern as an author when I read Love, Rosie. Had I read the book first I may have appreciated it more and just viewed the movie as being another poor book to movie adaptation.

My favourite movie is Fight Club based on the book by Chuck Palahniuk. I love the book, I’ve read it multiple times but there is something about the movie that I prefer. The same goes for The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, I’ve read and reread the book but still I love the movie more. Although I think Ryan Gosling helps with that!

I am currently reading The Hobbit with the intention of then reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have seen all of the films and I’m really hoping that I won’t be disappointed. The films are epic masterpieces, I hope that the books inspired that epicness.

Are there any book to movie adaptations where you prefer the movie?

  1. Although not movies but T.V., I’ve liked The Walking Dead better than the graphic novels and The 100 and Bones better than the books (although I love the books too). More can be delved into during a T.V. season than in most books.

  2. The last Twilight movie was really good 🙂 But I am more the book or the movie type. I don`t know but with little exceptions the first always wins no matter if it`s the book or the movie.
